FedRAMP and FISMA: Easier, Quicker, Safer

Allowing QTS to help you manage your FedRAMP and FISMA compliance is easier, quicker and safer

Since the 2011 introduction of the Cloud First policy, government agencies and contractors have been pushed towards cloud storage. They have been tasked with undergoing great infrastructure change while simultaneously meeting stringent compliance standards. The nature of federal data – including telephone records, bank transactions, raw video surveillance and even DNA samples – makes it a prime target for hackers, as proven by the 2015 leak of 21.5 million people’s records from the Office of Personnel Management. Meritalk, a government IT consortium, anticipates federal agencies will spend $65 billion between 2015 and 2016 on modernizing and securing their data. Many of these organizations will look to third-party providers to help them.

Federal organizations must meet the mandated standards of both the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) and the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP). Both of these compliance requirements provide necessary oversight for cloud storage systems. Unfortunately, keeping up with the constant evolution of these regulations can be incredibly time-consuming. That’s where QTS comes in.

Partnering with QTS makes meeting compliance standards like FISMA and FedRAMP easier, quicker and safer. QTS has experience working closely with civilian, defense and intelligence community agencies. We have supported more than 50 Authorizations to Operate across diverse IT systems, and have our own Provisional Authority to Operate. Our day-to-day routine revolves around protecting personal data according to compliance regulations, and you can trust us to exercise the same level of concern for your data’s security as you would if you were obligated to manage it.

FISMA protects government data against natural or man-made threats and requires agencies to conduct annual reviews to ensure information security programs are running effectively. FedRAMP compliance demonstrates that a cloud provider’s system has been granted an ATO and that all required documentation has been submitted for review. QTS offers tailor-made federal services built to the latest FISMA and FedRAMP standards, and we take responsibility for maintaining those compliance standards as they evolve.

Just this April, we announced the integration of Virtustream solution into our platform. QTS now hosts two of Virtustream’s FedRAMP compliant clouds in our premium data centers in Dallas, Texas and Dulles, Virginia.

QTS’ Vault campus in Dulles, VA features 64,000 sq. ft. of premium data center space, providing one of the most physically secure and federally-compliant data center solutions. It features colocation, managed and cloud services requiring FISMA, DIACAP and FedRAMP compliance.

Our Dallas-Fort Worth mega data center is strategically located on a 40-acre campus and offers 700,000 sq. ft. of data center space capable of providing up to 230,000 sq. ft. of raised floor. Just five minutes from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the diverse fiber network connections provide convenient access to the area’s numerous network providers.
