Jaclyn Karzon

  • What’s your full name? Jaclyn Irene Baldridge Karzon.
  • What’s your title? Network Transport Analyst.
  • How long have you been at QTS? Unofficially 5 years (I came in as a contractor in April 2014 and went permanent in Oct 2014).

  • What do you do at QTS (explain your role, responsibilities, etc.)? I work on the Tier 4 Engineering team and I’m responsible for reconciling carrier invoices for Accounts Payable.  I help manage the communications budget for QTS.  I also create ServiceNow records for cross connects for all of our DCO’s.

  • How did you end up in this field? I started in telecom in 1999 because a friend of mine told me I could make more money than I was making at the time as a Real Estate Office Manager.

  • Why did you choose this career path? As soon as I walked in the door of my first telecom job in 1999 and realized how much goes behind simply picking up a handset to make a call, I was hooked.  I had to find everything out there was to know about how phones and the internet work.

  • What moments at QTS have defined your career? Coming to work at QTS. This is the first data center I have worked for and it was like starting a new career all over again. I couldn’t believe I actually work at a place that holds the equipment that make phones and internet work…totally cool!!!

  • What’s been one of your proudest moments working at QTS? Being nominated by my manager for Eagle Club.  We all know how hard we work but when he nominated me I was just so appreciative it made me cry.

  • What do you like the most about working at QTS? The people.  My co-workers are my second family.

  • What’s been your most memorable day at QTS? Helping create Women Inspiring Leadership and being chosen to be the inaugural President.

  • What’s the most interesting part of your job? Since I sit with the T4 Engineers and Firewall Engineers I hear their conversations and the tech nerd in me soaks in their conversations… I love hearing them talk about new innovations and how they are helping our customers.

  • What’s the thing you like the most about this industry? It changes constantly and is never ever boring.

  • Where do you see the industry going in 5, 10, 15 years? A lot of digitization with less equipment to do larger volume work in less space.

  • What three traits define you? Integrity, compassion, loyalty and observation of my surroundings.

  • What do you like to do in your free time? Read and play with my dogs.

  • If you could learn anything, what would it be? How to fly an airplane(I have looked into lessons)

  • If you weren’t in this job, what else would you be doing? If I didn’t have to worry about paying bills I would volunteer somewhere every day.

  • When you have 30-minutes of free time, what could we find you doing? Probably doing some yard work  I like a neat clean yard and have recently discovered I have a little bit of a green thumb.

  • If you could meet anyone living or dead, who would it be and why? Besides Jesus it would be Katharine Hepburn. I saw an interview with her as a child and she made a huge impact on me with her sassy/not afraid to be a strong woman way.

  • What’s your walk-up song and why? Currently The Traveling Wilbury’s (80’s kid)–End of the Line, it’s about not being afraid to be who you are and if you have made a wrong, go make it right.

  • Anything else you want to share? Thank you soooo much for this opportunity, it means as much to me as being nominated for Eagle Club.
