Year in Review: The QTS Team Takes a Look Back at 2017

The impact of the data center industry can be felt far and wide. In today’s fast paced IT landscape, data is at the heart of every business’ ability to grow, innovate and enhance operations. Data touches every aspect of our personal lives, too, from where we shop to how we communicate with loved ones. For QTS, the past year has been characterized by the expanding role of data and has been full of exciting innovation. In 2017, our team of hybrid IT experts, engineers and customer service specialists had an enormous impact not only on our organization, but also on our customers’ vision for how IT could transform their businesses. We’ve taken a look back at the last 12 months and are excited about how we’ve evolved, expanded and enhanced our ability to meet the IT needs of today and tomorrow. Let’s take a trip down memory lane...

A New Year, A New Data Center
We kicked off the year with an exciting expansion in a booming data center market. In January, QTS announced we were doubling our footprint in Texas with the purchase of a 260,000 square foot data center in Fort Worth. It was a proud day on November 13 as our executive team joined local dignitaries, military veterans and first-responders for an official dedication ceremony. As our second mega data campus serving Fortune 1000 enterprises in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Irving market, the new world class QTS data center is connectivity-rich and carrier-neutral with 12 carriers and a location adjacent to a number of other large enterprises and tech company-owned data facilities. IT Orchestration Transforms Industry, QTS Leads with New Platform
Over the past decade, we’ve watched IT footprints grow larger and larger and strategies grow more complex. Our experts recognized that in order to scale and continue to innovate within their organizations, IT decision makers would need to create data-driven cultures built on quick, centralized access to key data. In response, QTS announced the launch of the industry’s first hybrid IT Service Delivery Platform in May. With a focus on empowering our customers to leverage business intelligence and data center deployment anytime, anywhere and on any device, QTS released this highly-automated, cloud-based IT orchestration platform. QTS SDP increases visibility into your infrastructure, product, business and operational systems through aggregated real-time metrics of all your QTS deployments, unlocking the power of data for business era intelligence.

QTS Expands Cloud Portfolio with Solution Built on Hyperconverged Infrastructure

On August 24, our cloud engineers and product team announced the launch of QTS Hosted Private Cloud, a customizable, dedicated infrastructure built with hyperconverged technology. This purpose-built infrastructure-as-a-service platform was designed to meet the evolving hybrid IT needs of enterprise customers. QTS Hosted Private Cloud was architected to support high performance IOPS and offers advanced automated capabilities, speeding customers’ turnaround on time-to-value.

QTS Begins Construction of Hyperscale Data Center in Northern Virginia

Following the acquisition of 52 acres of land in the nation’s fastest growing data center market, we announced on October 24 plans to begin construction on a new mega data center campus in Ashburn, Virginia. Adjacent to QTS’ Dulles Vault Campus, QTS Ashburn is designed to meet rapid, large-scale deployment needs in the nation’s largest Tier 1 market. The Ashburn site will support 700,000 square feet and 140 megawatts of gross power. In addition to this exciting news, QTS also announced the acquisition of 84 acres in Phoenix, Arizona and 92 acres of land in Hillsboro, Oregon to establish key positions in these hyperscale growth markets.

QTS Innovates and Expands AWS Partnership to Offer Industry-First Solution

Adding to our status as an AWS Direct Connect Partner, we were proud to announce that after passing rigorous certification requirements, QTS achieved AWS Advanced Consulting Partner status on April 20. This elite status expanded our ability to quickly bring hybrid cloud solutions to customers needing dedicated colocation with their AWS cloud.

On this foundation of proven expertise and experience, QTS and Amazon Web Services announced a strategic partnership to deliver cloud-ready colocation to AWS customers. The introduction of QTS CloudRamp marked the launch of the industry’s first prebuilt, pre-configured colocation solution designed for rapid provisioning and streamlined connectivity to AWS environments. On November 13, QTS CloudRamp was announced as an exclusive offering for AWS Marketplace - offering simple, automated ordering, onboarding and provisioning.

Later that month, QTS Executive Vice President of Product Management and Marketing Chris Ortbals joined IT leaders from around the world at AWS re:Invent 2017. With an expert panel including AWS’ Hasan Usami, Chris described how QTS CloudRamp enables migration of workloads into the public cloud. You can see the entire session, "Path to Successful Cloud Migration: How AWS Marketplace Helps Accelerate the Journey to the Cloud,” here. This strategic partnership also features other QTS solutions, like Tailored Cloud-Ready Colocation, Managed AWS and AWS Direct Connect, all designed to help our customers get more from their public cloud investments.
