QTS Expands Atlanta Footprint with Industry Leading Greenfield Build

Atlanta-Metro Campus Construction Update

Over the course of nearly 15 years QTS has established itself as the data center leader in the Southeastern US market. Our Atlanta-Metro Data Center (DC1) mega facility features over 250 customers and access to 200+ network providers, in addition to all of the major cloud on-ramps. It currently spans almost 1,000,000 gross square feet, making it one of the largest multi-tenant data centers in the world. In addition, the site includes one of the largest pre-positioned, data center-owned substations in the country at 120 megawatts, enabling QTS to deliver a 20% power cost advantage to its customers relative to peers.

In recent months, we have further strengthened our position as the industry’s leader in operational maturity, excellence, and growth by expanding our Atlanta campus with the construction of Atlanta-Metro Data Center II (DC2). Designed and engineered by the data center sector’s best architects and mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineers, the project is helmed by the industry-leading QTS Development team.

The second mega data center on our Atlanta-Metro campus will provide 72 megawatts of critical power fed from the campus’ second on-site, dedicated, expandable substation. The 2-story facility will span nearly 500,000 square feet comprised of six massive data halls, perfect for hyperscale and large enterprise deployments. The design takes into consideration the needs and requirements of the world’s most sophisticated customers, providing conscientious design elements such as streamlined logistical throughput, maximizing customer workflow, and flexibility for large-scale contiguous growth under one roof.

Construction progress remains on schedule and the facility has passed a number of milestones including design, pre-construction, site civil, and the majority of structural work. While progress continues each day, the static image below, from mid-March 2020, showcases a significant portion of the facility shell, a first wave of generators and roof top cooling units installed, location prep work for the dedicated substation underway and generator yard wall constructed.

Boasting 100-acres, the QTS Atlanta-Metro campus has plans to build additional facilities to further QTS’ commitment to being the leader in customer service and operational maturity.
