Updates from our 2020 Environmental, Sustainability and Governance Report

In its third year of publishing, the annual QTS ESG Report continues to evolve. Here are some of the highlights!

As many know, sustainability is a year-round commitment to on-going improvement of environmental, social and governance initiatives within a company.  Whether the concentration is green data centers or making the company a place where employees, customers and community members feel comfortable – it takes a dedicated team and executive support to run an ESG program. At QTS we are guided by our Core Values through every level of the company and they are especially evident in our sustainability program.

Our legacy of corporate sustainability can be traced back to early initiatives to redevelop large scale infrastructure into world-class data centers, providing a significant opportunity to recycle existing materials. Over the years these initiatives expanded into business practices aligned around a company culture that is Powered by People.

In its third year of publishing, the annual QTS Environmental, Social and Governance Initiatives Report continues to evolve each year. Here are some of the highlights from the 2020 ESG Report:

  • Integrated sustainability framework alignment - 2020 ESG Report has been prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards: Core option and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) real estate standards, and aligns with the guidance of the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). The activity metrics for each of these frameworks is designed to assist in the accurate evaluation and comparability of reporting.

  • Expanding corporate charity partnerships – in 2020 we were proud to have our highest year of charitable giving in QTS history (greater than $1 million) to more than 80 different organizations including a new corporate partnership with World Vision to make clean water accessible to thousands of families globally, the QTS HumanKIND program.

  • Green data center progress – in 2020 QTS made progress toward our ‘100% renewable sourced power by 2025 goal’ with a 35%+ increase in renewable energy procurement year-over-year. The QTS team also worked diligently toward Energy Star Certifications for our data centers and ranked #1 by GRESB in sustainability among data centers globally for the second consecutive year.
